A Program of the: POVERTY IN OHIO: A THREAT TO THE COMMON GOOD Campaign

Tim Luckhaupt, Director, Catholic Conference of Ohio
Governor Ted Strickland
Rep. Jon Husted, Speaker of the House

On April 25, 2007 the Catholic Conference of Ohio hosted a gathering of parish leaders, diocesan officials, Catholic high school students, and concerned persons at the statehouse to advocate for the needs of the poor. HB 119, the legislative budget bill, was the focus for this advocacy.

During lunch these participants joined with representatives from the Ohio Council of Churches as part of the Ecumenical Legislative Advocacy Day.

Presentations were given by the governor, legislative leaders from both political parties and administration officials.

The Ecumenical Agenda focused on two actions: Support for Basic Human Needs and Accessible and Affordable Health Care.

The Catholic Conference agenda included these points, as well as support for Educational Choice and Support for Pregnancy Prevention, Parenting and Life Research Programs.
