Overview

There are four departments within the Catholic Conference of Ohio. Departmental membership includes clergy, religious, and laypersons engaged in related activities from each of the dioceses of Ohio. These groups elect their own chairpersons and other officers as needed. A staff person is assigned by the Conference for each of these departments.

Administrative Services

The Department on Administrative Services periodically convenes diocesan personnel involved in the following Church ministries: Cemeteries, Communications, Council of Women,and  Family Life.

Health Affairs

Health Affairs represents all of Ohio's Catholic hospitals, special hospitals, and various out-patient clinics and urgent care centers. Its members are involved in effective community health planning, providing quality health care and representing the interests of Catholic hospitals and health systems in legislative matters.

Education

The Department on Education serves those involved in Catholic elementary and secondary schools, religious education, youth and young adult ministry, and college campus ministry. Those meeting as groups on a regular basis include the Diocesan Directors of Campus Ministry, the Diocesan Directors of Religious Education, Superintendents of Schools, and Diocesan Directors of Youth and Young Adult Ministry. Each of these groups uses the Conference as a forum for planning, discussion, cooperative action and professional growth.

Social Concerns

The Department of Social Concerns coordinates efforts which both serve and advocate for the well-being of persons who are poor or disadvantaged. The department convenes diocesan Social Action and Social Service Directors, as well as Black Catholics, Hispanics, and Rural Life Directors.
