Get to Know: Marsha Forson

Associate Director, Social Concerns

Marsha Forson_square

My Responsibilities: My role is to support the Church’s work to defend the dignity of human life, promote justice and peace, and exercise charity in the great state of Ohio. This is accomplished by assessing public policies in light of Catholic social and moral doctrine, engaging with Ohio legislators, convening diocesan Social Action ministries, Catholic Charities, and Respect Life offices, and empowering Catholics in Ohio to champion “the greater good which the Church offers humankind” (Apostolos Suos, Pope St. John Paul II, 1998).

A Little Bit About Me: I grew up as the daughter of Ghanaian parents in Southern Maryland, surrounded by interesting Catholic and American history.  I went on to study nursing at the University of Scranton, PA (home of the hit sitcom, “The Office”) and worked as a nurse in surgery and perianesthesia for 3.5 years. While in college I interned with the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Catholic Campaign for Human Development. It was there that I developed a profound love for the Church’s social doctrine. I hold a master’s degree in public administration and public policy from American University, spent some time working for the federal government’s Office of Refugee Resettlement as a project officer, and served the USCCB’s Department of Migration and Refugee Services as a federal policy advisor before Providence led me to Ohio.

Outside of work I can be found on a leisurely stroll, reading, exploring new places, planning a beach trip, or pretending to be an amateur florist.
